Digital Concept Map Using the Inspiration App

What?

Concept Maps are ways for students to understand

their conception of material or, to showcase

information in a fun, creative way! To create my concept map displayed to the right, I used the app

called "Inspiration" which can be downloaded right from the Itunes app store. Concept maps display connections between ideas, details, or thoughts.

So What?

IISTE NETS*T Standard 2.d. - Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching.

Creating concept maps allows students opportunities to display their knowledge both formally and summatively. A formative way to gather information through concept maps may be a + or - on creating the way accurately by following directions told.

A summative way to use concept maps may be for students to complete an assignment using their concept map and providing students with a rubric that correlates to the guidelines and tasks asked.

The concept map is great for students who display their understanding through pictures more than writing. Students may need a lot of direct instruction to get them started with the use of the technology.

Now What?

Now that I have learned how to introduce and use concept maps through the use of technology in a fun,

visual way, I feel as though I want to steal the idea of having the students create one in the beginning of the school year. It would be great for students to display them for the class as a get to know you activity. I would love to use the maps as a part of the classroom environment decorations as well !
